Package: Custom Full Day Package
Venue: 6 Kildare Street, Dublin - Royal College of Physicians
We had an unusual, but most enjoyable custom full day wedding package on Saturday. The venue was the Royal College of Physicians on Kildare Street in Dublin. It was a wedding for Anthony and Cathy Thuillier. Originally we had been booked to play for a full night package but because the couple where doing things differently our playing time was extended.
We had an early afternoon setup, as we had two systems to setup in two different areas of the venue. We had a small setup in the reception area of the venue for the drinks reception and guest arrival and our main DJ setup in the Ball Room.
The Couple had decided that they where not going to have a meal at the venue, they had their meal earlier in a nearby restaurant with family. Their guests for the wedding where to arrive at the venue for 7.30pm for the drinks reception and finger food.
Vivify provided music for the drinks reception from 7pm till 8.30pm. Speeches where then done with sound and mics supplied by Vivify. At 9pm it was into the Ball Room for the first dance, which was an Elvis Song 'I just can't help believing', it was the first time that I have ever played that particular song for a first dance and it seemed to go down well with the crowd.
The guests were a little slow to get going which is what happens sometimes with a weddings that start that little bit later. But once they settled in the dance floor was soon full. 80's and 90's with a touch of chart was the order of the night. I had tried some older stuff at the start of the night but it was a younger crowd and 80's seemed old enough for them to keep them moving.
Last song of the night was chosen by Anthony & Cathy and it was The Waterboys - 'Whole of the Moon. As I said not your typical full day wedding but a most enjoyable one.

Event: Bar Gig
Venue: Odeon Bar & Grill Harcourt Street, Dublin
Times: 9.30pm till 3am
Friday seen us back behind the decks in Odeon Bar & Grill on Harcourt Street Dublin. This is a cracking venue with a nice laid back atmosphere. Fridays are normally a busy night in Odeon with office workers coming in from work to enjoy those end of the week cocktails.
We kick off the music at 9.30 and go till around 3am. In that time I get to cover a lot of music and it's interesting watching the crowd to see what songs get the biggest reaction. For me this is a great place to try out new music, because there is no dance floor as such (people just dance where they stand) I can drop in unknown upcoming artist and judge the reaction to the songs. I can then take this knowledge and use it in my wedding sets so I have a constant stream of fresh floor fillers to keep the party atmosphere going.
This weeks best reaction : Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne - Rather Be
This week Most requested: Pharrell Williams - Happy
Last night (12th Jan 2014) was the first Sunday night gig of 2014. It was a Christmas Party for the staff of the K-Club. Like many of the Hotel staff around the country, they never got a chance to have a staff outing during the busy Christmas period, so they had their party in January. There were about 110 in attendants.
The event was held in the Westgrove Hotel in Clane Co.Kildare. I've played this venue about 30 times over the years and its always a good night there. I'm not sure if its the shape of the room or the low ceiling but, i find that its always very easy to build a good atmosphere in the Westgrove.
